Facebook is constantly changing, so should your business strategy.

Facebook announced a few months ago that content from pages will gradually start to become less visible on fans’ Timelines, because- well Facebook is not a free promotional platform, I’m beginning to think their new slogan should be: ” What you pay for is what you get”.

Due to Facebook’s algorithm( that is constantly changing), the pages you like are become less visible to you, and even if content is out there, you simply can not see it. Usually 1 in 6 fans can see what pages post, but now, “story-bumping” made it “worse” for businesses online. Read more on that here.

According to Steam Feed, this is what Facebook announced back in December:

…competition for each News Feed story is increasing. Because the content in News Feed is always changing, and we’re seeing more people sharing more content, Pages will likely see changes in distribution. For many Pages, this includes a decline in organic reach. We expect this trend to continue as the competition for each story remains strong and we focus on quality.

That being said, the first question you should ask yourself is, do you really want to rely on Facebook as the sole platform for your business? Because let’s face it, it’s time to change your strategy and focus on your owned channels ( blogs, email, websites) and make use of other rising social media platforms such as Instagram, Linkedin,Twitter and Google+.

When it comes to your social media strategy on Facebook, the basics should remain the same:

– Post engaging content based on your audience’s Interests and online availability which can be analyzed through Facebook Insights.

– Invest in Facebook ads to get your content more visible and to get more “paid” fans likes

– Launch regular Facebook competitions, either with dedicated tabs (which require Facebook ads) or simple Timeline competitions.

Facebook is never constant, and that is why your strategy should go line in line with the restless changes and updates from the hectic, yet necessary world of Social Media. So are you changing directions yet?
